Across the River (Week 2)

The heroes began their interrogation of Jakarin Sabrak. The dwarf is mentally unstable and takes some coaching to reveal how he is and his intentions. Initially, he claims he must have been possessed by the plague demons but it is readily apparent he is lying. After applying some “persuasion” the heroes learn the following:

  • Jakarin is from a clan of dark elementalist dwarves. His talent lies with shadow magic.
  • He has two brothers, Zarnak and Azryg. Zarnak is a seer, Azryg is an elemental sorcerer. Jarkarin fears them more than anything.
  • His brothers have taken residence in the Sunset Shrine. Jakarin believes the source of the plague is deep within the temple.
  • The plague was spread by Jakarin pouring a vial of red fluid into the Easting water supply.

After interrogating the dwarf, the party decides to head to the Sunset Shrine after sequestering the remaining infected villagers.

After a few hours of travel, the heroes are ambushed by members of the Sabrak clan and their earth elemental allies at a river. The fight was tough as the heroes were pelted with crossbow bolts and elemental lightning from across the river while being pounded by the earth elementals. The enemies were defeated, however, and several interesting items were found. One of the dwarves was wearing a Cloak of Resistance +1 and one was carrying a silver holy symbol of Ghaundaur, the god of oozes, slimes and aberrant creatures. There was also a left-handed spiral carved on the holy symbol. The heroes were unable to identify the meaning of this spiral.
